HOW TO ELOPE IN QUEENSTOWN, NEW ZEALAND

2024 QUEENSTOWN ELOPEMENT GUIDE

Thinking about eloping in Queenstown? I agree you should. There is many beautiful places on this planet and I think we can all agree that Queenstown is one of the most incredible. A sweet little town surrounded by mountains and lakes with endless locations to choose from, gorgeous airbnbs to get ready at and incredible vendors to choose from.

Anyway, in this guide, I have you covered, with heaps of information to make this journey as easy as possible for you. I will include my favourite locations, airbnbs, seasons to get married and much more.

THE BEST SPOTS IN QUEENSTOWN TO ELOPE

JACK’S POINT: This is one of my absolute favourite spots for every type of shoot, but an elopement in particular, This spot sits right underneath the famous Remarkables (the Queenstown ski field). I am sure you have probably heard about these mountains, but they truely are spectacular. This spot has so many different backdrops, including the mountains, a lake, trees & there is also long grass for running through post ceremony hehe

SKIPPERS CANYON: You wait until you see the spot I have in mind if you elope here, it is beyond beautiful surrounded by mountains and golden tussocks. With lots of room to choose from & have fun in! This spot is surrounded by hiking trails if you want to go for a wander too. This spot is perfect for both ceremony & post ceremony photos.

A HELI: Okay so hear me out, one of the best ways to elope in Queenstown is by Helicopter. There is endless amounts of locations (Wanaka is just around the corner with insane mountains too!) one of the best in Queenstown being Cecil Peak. If you think this might be you, ask me & I can elaborate on the best spots + companies.

MY FAVOURITE AIRBNBS IN QUEENSTOWN

JACKS RETREAT: Stunningly beautiful, Jacks Retreat is a private retreat located just out of Queenstown with views of Lake Wakatipu & the surrounding mountain ranges. This airbnb is made out of gorgeous stone & timber and truely feels like a quiet peaceful retreat away from the bustle of Queenstown.

STONERIDGE: Stonebridge offer multiple types of accomodation, from a sweet little cottage to a luxurious retreat overlooking Lake Hayes. The perfect place to get ready on your wedding morning and spend your first night together as a married couple.

THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO ELOPE

The big question, and this will change depending on what type of person you are as I don’t think there is a best time to elope for anybody, it’s something that you need to decide. But in saying that, I am going to write a little bit about the seasons to help you figure out what’s best for you.

SUMMER: Definitely the most popular time of the year - for a reason. Queenstown summers are stunninggg, the sun is warm but not too warm (I’m from QLD Australia so you know I’m used to scorching summers). The average temperature usually hitting around 20 degrees celcius, but a good thing to keep in mind is the sun in New Zealand has a bite to it so it can get hot and you can burn very easily!

AUTUMN: All those beautiful warm toned leaves and golden grass, this time of year is always very complimenting. A time between summer & winter with brisk fresh air. For those that love warm hearty tones, this if for you.

WINTER: This may be an unpopular opinion in many, but winter is my favourite time of year, especially in Queenstown. All the mountains are covered in snow (& the ground sometimes too!) Winter is definitely only a time for people that love the cold, as it gets down to -2 degrees celcius some nights! Queenstown is truely a winter wonderland during this time, whether you get a heli to the top of a snow covered mountain or decide to stay on the ground, I promise this time of year is breathtaking.

SPRING: The most ideal weather of them all, during this time winter is slowly going away and everything starts warming up before summer hits. The trees and flowers are in full bloom and showing off the seasons beauty. As much as we know Lupins are a pest, they do make for a beautiful backdrop & NZ is pretty famous for them during spring. But these aren’t the only flower to see, NZ is home to many gorgeous species of flowers and if you love your pretty flowers, spring is the time to elope.
